A Mini Tummy Tuck is completed in a hospital operating room setting, under general anesthesia. It is day surgery, so you most likely will go home the same day. You will, however, need to have an adult assist you for 24 hours. You will begin getting up and walking around, in a slightly bent over position, the evening of surgery. It is recommended you sleep in an upright position for the first week. You may need to be out of work for 3 to 7 days depending upon what you do for a living.

Recovery From A Mini Tummy Tuck

Initially you have swelling that will minimize over the course of several months, and there may be some bruising, which resolves over only a couple of weeks. If there is any discomfort it can be relieved with use of an over the counter anti-inflammatory like Aleve or Advil, but you will be provided with a prescription narcotic for limited use, if needed, by Dr. Garcia. You will be provided with an abdominal binder, which is recommended to be worn continuously for 6 weeks to help the skin re-drape and reduce postoperative swelling. As long as you do not have any drains in place, you will be allowed to shower 24 to 48 hours after surgery. You will need to avoid any tub bathing, swimming or hot tubs during the first 4 to 6 weeks postoperatively. The steri-strips we’ve placed over the incision, you will leave intact and simply wear loose comfortable clothing to protect the incision from any excessive rubbing or irritation.

Do’s and Don’ts After Your Mini Tummy Tuck

• Don’t run.
• Don’t jump.
• Don’t lift over 25 pounds.
• Don’t expect the worst. If you think you’ll be in pain, then you will. Go into surgery with a positive outlook, knowing you are being well cared for by an excellent board certified plastic surgeon and his staff.
• Stop smoking. Smoking cessation is highly recommended prior to and after surgery. Nicotine products shrink the blood vessels causing constriction. This restriction increases your risk for postoperative complications and poor wound healing. Healthy blood flow to healing incisions is necessary. Cessation at least 8 weeks prior to surgery is recommended. This includes no use of nicotine patches or gum.
