Both BOTOX® Cosmetic and JUVÉDERM® XC are ways to treat moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles. Both are non-surgical, but they work differently:
While most patients experience results for three to four months, your own results may vary. Dr. Garcia recommends enhancing your results with proper skin care.
Most patients will notice an improvement within 3 – 5 days, but the maximum effect may take up to two weeks.
Patients may want to avoid taking aspirin, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medications, St. John’s Wort, or high doses of Vitamin E supplements for one week prior to treatment, consult your primary physician before discontinuing any normally prescribed medications. Dr. Garcia also recommends taking Arnica Montana for three days prior to your treatment to reduce the risk of bruising and swelling. Arnica Montana can be purchased at most health food stores.
Do not use Arnica if you have active heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, or are taking Coumadin, Lovenox, Heparin, or xeralto. If you have a medical condition that affects clotting or are on a medication which affects bloods clotting, you must get your primary care doctor’s approval before taking arnica.
Side effects associated with the injection include localized pain, inflammation, tenderness, swelling, redness and or bleeding/bruising. The mild redness and swelling at the injection site typically lasts for a few minutes. Patients can return immediately to work after treatment.
