Treat Blemishes Fast: How SkinMedica Products Can Help

It has probably happened to you. You have a big event coming up - a wedding, job interview, first date - and you're really wanting to look your best. But then, all of a sudden, out of nowhere, you feel a dreaded pimple forming beneath your skin.

So what do you do? How do you get that dreaded blemish to disappear as soon as possible or, better yet, stop it in its tracks?

The truth is, last minute blemishes are a real bummer, but there are some ways to treat them and clear up your complexion quickly so you can feel confident and flawless for whatever important occasion you have coming your way.

Three Steps for Treating Blemishes

1. Don't Panic

If you're like most people, your first reaction to a new blemish forming, especially before an important event, is to panic. Try to stay calm and refrain from touching the afflicted area - you don't want to add additional bacteria to the blemish! Be sure that you are washing your face correctly so you aren't accidently fueling the infection while trying to keep your skin healthy and clean. You should also resist the urge to pick at the pimple as this could lead to scarring and may make the blemish worse than it already is.

2. Treat the Blemish

There are a number of ways to treat a blemish as it is forming. It's important to know what type of blemish you have so you know how best to treat it. There are many types of blemishes, but two common varieties are pustules and cysts. While pustules push bacteria towards the surface of your skin, cysts keep the infection causing the blemish beneath the surface.

There are many topical treatments out there for both types of blemishes. Here at Garcia Plastic & Hand Surgery, we highly recommend the SkinMedica line of skincare products for topical skin treatment. Options may include our GlyPro Exfoliating Cleanser, AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser or even our Vitalize Chemical Peel.

We carry a full line of SkinMedica products here in our office, or you can shop for them online through our online store. Give us a call at 518-793-0475  to learn more.

In addition to treating your blemish topically, it's not a bad idea to make sure your diet includes at least a few foods that are good for your skin. These foods provide vitamins and nutrients your skin needs to stay healthy and recover from blemishes. You may also want to consider decreasing your dairy intake.

3. Touch Up Remaining Imperfections

Blemishes typically take a few days to run their course, so even if you catch and treat a pimple early there's a good chance you'll have a bit of evidence left behind. The good news is, if you've treated the blemish carefully and appropriately, disguising the remaining imperfection with a bit of makeup won't be too difficult.

Unfortunately, blemishes and acne can sometimes leave behind stubborn scars. Treating and eliminating these is a bit more involved but it is VERY doable! There are a variety of effective ways to reduce acne scarring, including at-home remedies and medical spa procedures.
