How to Wash Your Face Correctly

Who knew that there could be a right way to do something as simple as washing your face? Turns out, if you want to maintain healthy, blemish-free skin, there are a few guidelines you should follow! Here's what you need to know about washing your face properly!

Wash Your Hands Before Washing Your Face

Your hands are covered in germs and bacteria. This nasty stuff can make it's way to your face if you're not careful, causing blemishes, pimples and grease! As a result, it's very important to wash your hands before you begin the face-washing process.

Remove Eye Makeup

Before washing your entire face, remove any eye makeup you are wearing. You don't want this to smudge and smear or run down your face when it becomes wet. Use a gentle makeup remover to take off mascara, eyeliner and eyeshadow before you get started.

Wet Your Face With Warm Water

Hot water can shock your skin and dry it out, but warm water will help to nourish and relax your skin. It will also help to lift the dirt particles out of your skin so that they can be removed.

Gently Cleanse with Facial Cleanser

Rinsing with water is fine, but if you want to exfoliate and thoroughly cleanse your face use a facial cleanser or exfoliating cleanser. Like most skin care products, cleansers are not one-size-fits-all. While a gentle face wash works well for most skin types, those with special skin concerns may wish to select a cleanser that provides added benefits.

Dr.Garcia recommends our SkinMedica AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser for brighter, smoother and more even-toned skin. Cleansing in small circles will help to remove dirt, sweat and makeup and completely cleanse your skin.

Rinse With Cool Water

Clean off remaining soap and cleanser by rinsing your face with cool water after you wash. The cool water will help to close your pores and eliminate any dirt particles that may be clinging to your skin.

Pat Your Face Dry

When drying your face, use a towel to pat gently, absorbing the moisture. Rubbing can cause irritation and redness.

To keep your skin clean and healthy, follow these guidelines when washing your face! It may seem like a simple, everyday task, but washing your face correctly is important if you want to maintain a radiant, blemish-free complexion.
